10.32K Run

Today I ran 10.32K in 1hour and 23mins with the running group.  It was a tough run on snow covered sidewalks with challenging hills.  My legs are paying for it now.  I have already had one bath today, but will be heading for another one shortly.  This is the route we took:

south Wharncliffe

6.42K and 7.38K Runs

When I turned on my Garmin today I noticed there was a previous run still on it.  It was from last Saturday.  I forgot to upload it and blog about it.  Last I ran 6.42K in 49mins.  It was a pretty nice run as I was able to run on the bike path due to lack of snow!
Today I ran 7.38K in 1hour.  It was much warmer out then Thursday's run but there was a lot snow and slush on the side walks.  Half way through by ankles and back were feeling the resistance of the snow.

3.1Mile Treadmil Run and 7.9K Run

Last night I ran 3.1Miles on the treadmill at a speed of 4.7.
Tonight I ran approximately 7.9K in just over an hour with the running group.  My Garmin would not pick up a signal so I am not 100% of the distance and time.  This is the route we took:
7.9K
north Clarence
west Queens
west Riverside
north Wilson
west Blackfriars
north Wharencliffe
east Oxford
north Talbot
east St James
north St George
east Victoria
south Waterloo
west Pall Mall
south Wellington
west Central
south Clarence to Club
It was pretty cold out tonight, when I got home it was -18 degrees.  It did not seem as bad as it sounds, but I did have icicles on my eyelashes and frost forming on my balaclava.
We are renovating at work, so today was spent packing up the office.  I was so busy I did not drink very much water during the day, so I was parched when it came to my run.  I drank at every stop light, so it worked out okay.

2.1Mile Treadmill Run

I skipped my long run with the running group yesterday as when I woke up to head out there was a wind warning of 90K winds.  I think I made the right decision as it was pretty cold yesterday.  Tonight it was still pretty cold so I opted for a run on the treadmill before Biggest Loser.  I ran 2.1Miles in 26mins at an average speed of 4.7.  This is my schedule for the rest of the week:
Monday: Cross Train Treadmill Run
Tuesday: 7K Run
Wednesday: Rest Day
Thursday: 8K Run
Friday: Rest Day  (Register for Forest City 1/2 Marathon and Really Chilly 10K)
Saturday: 5K Run
Sunday: 10K Run

Cross Train

Tonight I made it to the gym and completed 3.48Miles on the stationary bike.  I was happy I made it out to the gym.  It is really windy here tonight, so I am glad I didn't have a run planned.

2.48Mile Treadmill Run and 6.67K Group Run

Last night I ran 2.48Miles on the Treadmill in 31mins.  I had 7K scheduled but was not very motivated to run in the dark.  I instead went to the gym and hit the treadmill.  Tonight I ran 6.67K in 53mins with the running group.  This is the route we took:
west King
north Talbot
west Dundas
west Riverside
north Britannia
east Oxford
south Waterloo
west King
Last year when we ran this route it was the worst run of the whole year!  Tonight was much better, a little snowy and windy, but nothing compared to last year.

You Are an Ironman - Book Review

This month I am right on time with my review for You Are an Ironman: How Six Weekend Warriors Chased Their Dream of Finishing the World’s Toughest Triathlon by Jacques Steinberg.

Over all, I really enjoyed this book as I enjoyed reading about the different back stories of all the Weekend Warriors!  I especially looked forward to reading every night near the end of the book as I couldn't wait to see how everyone was doing in their training and in the Ironman race itself.

Which of the potential Ironmen did you relate to the most? Why?
I think I related to Laura the best as I could see myself struggling with the swim portion and having an overwhelming fear.

When do you first remember watching or hearing about an Ironman?
I am not sure when I first remember hearing about an Ironman.  I did watch portions of an Ironman on TV a month or so ago.  I am sorry for not remember which one it was as I started watching it near the end, but it was on TSN.

Would you ever do an Ironman or a triathlon? Why or why not?
At this point I think not.  I am not much of a swimmer or a cyclist.

7.74K Run and Parmesan Hash Brown Cups

Today I ran 7.74K in 58mins. I am pretty happy with this time.  When I woke up it was pouring ran.  I was a little worried we would get poured on, but it let up for the run.  I was a little over dressed because I was worried I was going to be wet and cold, even though it was unseasonably warm again today.  I wore my Wine and Dine 1/2 Marathon race shirt in honour of Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend this weekend!  This is the route we took:
west King
north Clarence
diagonal X Victoria Park
north Wellington
east Pall Mall
north William
@ Regent turn around and retrace your steps
For lunch I made Parmesan Hash Brown Cups that I found on Pinterest.  Here is the recipe.
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups of shredded hash browns
3 green onions, chopped
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Direction:
Preheat over to 350 degrees. Coat 12 muffin tins with cooking spray; set aside.  In large bowl, combine potatoes, onions, cheese, salt and pepper.  Toss lightly with a fork.  Drizzle with olive oil.  Toss again with a fork until mixture is well combined.  Spoon mixture evenly into muffin cups (my batch made 10).  With the back of the spoon, apply gentle pressure to pack mixture into each cup.  Bake for 55mins in lower third of the oven (I moved my up in the over half way through).  Let rest for 5 minutes, run a small knife around the edge of each cup to loosen.
Here is my training schedule for next week:
Monday: Cross Train
Tuesday: 7K Run
Wednesday: Rest Day
Thursday: 7K Run
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 4K Run
Sunday: 9K Run

4.17K Run

Today I ran 4.17K in 30mins.  This was my fastest 4K to date!   It is very warm out today.  I was able to wear capris!  On January 12th...Capris!  I could have gotten away with a short sleeve shirt was well, but opted to wear a long sleeve.

5.75K Run

Last night I ran 5.75K in 44mins with the running group.  It was a nice warm night.  I had difficulty deciding what to wear due to the warmer weather.  I ended up going with a tshirt under my jacket. I think the long sleeve would have been too warm.  This is the route we took:
west Dundas
north Clarence
diagonal X Victoria Park
north Wellington
east Pall Mall
north Waterloo
turn around at Victoria

3.1Mile Treadmill Run

Yesterday I ran 3.1Miles on the treadmill in 30mins at a speed of 4.7.  The sidewalks were pretty icy yesterday so that is why I opted for the treadmill.
I received the first communication regarding running group today and we have 5K scheduled for Tuesday.  We will then receive the rest of our training schedule during our first meeting on Tuesday.

Cross Train and 8K Run

Yesterday I completed 3miles on the Cross Ramp at the gym after work.  Tonight after work I ran approximately 8K in about 1hour and 30mins.  I forgot to put my Garmin on before my run.  I think this is because my new gym bag has too many pockets and it wasn't readily visible when I was getting ready.  This is the route I took:

8K
north Richmond
west Oxford
north Wharncliffe
north Western
east Windermere
south Perth
east University
south Sunset
east Huron
south St George
east Oxford
south Richmond

Happy New Year!

This afternoon I started 2013 off with a 7.44K run in 58mins.  It was snowing a bit, nice big flakes, but most of the sidewalk was clear.
