8K Run

Today was my first run since my 1/2 Marathon last Sunday.  The week got away from me and I couldn't get a run in.  I ran 8K in 1hour and 4mins.  I was planning on going for a run on Wednesday but my husband was in a minor car accident Wednesday afternoon, so that threw things off a bit.
My husband is fine, but we are still waiting to hear what the insurance is going to do with the car.  If they are fixing it or writing it off.   Luckily the other driver admitted fault so our insurance rate should not be effected and we do not have to pay the deductible.
Friday was my birthday so we had some birthday celebrations with Steven's family Thursday evening.  Look what Steven got me for my birthday!
It's waiting for my Disney medal in November!

Run for Retina 1/2 Marathon

Today I ran my second 1/2 Marathon, the Run for Retina 1/2 Marathon.

I ran it in 1 hour and 47mins.  I was pretty happy with this as I was hoping for under 1hour and 50mins.
It was calling for rain all week and they were right.  It rained pretty heavily before and during the beginning of the race.
Before the race, trying to keep dry
I made barely made it past the 5K group with out getting trampled.
I was fortunate that my running group was completing a training run during my race on the same course.  They cheered me on and my running group leader offered to take my jacket for me as I had tied it around my waist after the first KM.  It rained for most of the race but it ended in time for my feet to dry out and finish strong.
Here I come!
Crossing the finish line
I bought this jacket at the race for $20!
Here is my schedule for next week:
Monday: Rest Day
Tuesday: 6K Run
Wednesday: Rest Day
Thursday: 8K Run with the Running Group
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 5K Pack Run
Sunday: 13K Run with the Running Group

4.19K Run and Potatoe and Broccoli Soup

Today I ran 4.19K in 34mins.  It was threatening rain today but it held off for my run.  I don't think I am going to be so lucky with my 1/2 Marathon tomorrow as it is calling for thunderstorms.  The news tonight said it was going to be a sticky, hot, rainy day.  Perfect for a 1/2 Marathon... I picked up my race packet yesterday.
Run for Retina Race Packet
I was excited to get a gel to try as I hadn't before.  I hated it!  Yuck!
Today I made some Potatoe and Broccoli Soup which turned out pretty good.

Ingredients:
5 Medium Potatoes, Peeled
1 Can of Cheddar Cheese Soup
6 Cups of Milk
1 1/4 Cup of Broccoli
3/4 Cup of Flour
1/2 Cup of Cheddar Cheese, Shredded
1 Tbsp of Onion Powder
1 Tbsp of Italian Seasoning
Directions:
Peel, halve and boil potatoes for 15-20mins until tender; mash by adding 4 tbsp of milk until creamy.
Over medium heat simmer milk and flour, stir until well blended for about 8mins until it begins to thicken just a bit.
Add cheddar cheese soup concentrate and shredded cheese; mix until well incorporated and cheese is melted.
Add broccoli, mashed potatoes and all seasonings.
Stir repeatedly until potatoes are completely mixed; simmer for 15-20mins to heat, thicken and blend flavours.
Taste and adjust seasonings to your personal preference.

6K Run

Tonight I ran 6K. I have no idea of my time as my Garmin did not pick up a signal.  I tried to concentrate on my foot strike a bit more to help my shin pain.
Last night I finished reading The Giver by Lois Lowry.

This book is very interesting and an example that you cannot judge a book by it's cover.  I couldn't put it down and stop talking to my husband about it.  The ending sort of leaves you hanging though which I didn't really like. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.
