Halloween Haunting 10K Race

Today I ran the Halloween Haunting 10K race in 1:18:29.  I am pretty happy with this time as I wanted to be under 1hour and 20mins. I was at 40mins at the 5K mark and 47mins at 6K. I was really happy with these times. It was a pretty cold morning with the temperature being -1 when we left the house.
Bundled up before the race!

It warmed up in time for the race.
All set to run!
Almost 2K
At 5K
Coming to the finish!
My husband's parents and brother came to visit today and was at the finish line when I ran through.  We then went out for a nice lunch at Applebees afterwards.

4K Run and Running Jacket Review

Today I ran 4K with our running group in 33mins.  I am happy with this as it is faster then my last 4K run.  Earlier this week I finally bought a running jacket for the cooler weather.  I bought an Adidas Climawarm jacket.

Since it was 0 degrees out this morning, it was a perfect test run for the jacket.
I also picked up my race packet for the Halloween Haunting 10K race tomorrow.

Isn't the shirt cool? I do wish it was long sleeve however. I am going to go out today to see if I can find a reasonably priced black long sleeve tech shirt to wear under it for tomorrow's race.  I need to get at cleaning the house as the in laws are coming to visit tomorrow and to see me finish my race.

6K Run #8

Today I ran 6K in 50mins. I am pretty happy with this time.  Yesterday my lovely husband bought me copy of Runner's World magazine and I am enjoying the read so far.  I think I may subscribe!  I picked up our luggage tags for our cruise today.  Can't Wait!

8K Run #4

Tonight I ran 8K in approximately 1hour and 9mins.  It took my Garmin .4K to find a signal.  I ran downtown right after work.  Selena Gomez was performing at the JLC tonight and my run took me past the JLC both ways.  Both ways I met the same ticket scalper who tried to hit on me.   Also, visit Shut Up + Run  , (Just) Trying is for Little Girls and Pain, Pride and Perseverance for giveaways!

6K Run #7

Today I ran 6K in 50mins! One minute faster then my 6K run last week!  Next Sunday is the 10K Halloween Haunting but I am sooo nervous about my time.  I really want to be under 1hour and 20mins, but I am not sure if that is going to work out.

10K Run #4

Today I ran 10K in 1hour and 27mins with the running group.  I wish it was faster.  It was a cold 6 degree run this morning.  The river is still really high from all the rain we have received the past week.  My run took me through the University which was nice.  I went to the University for 4 years but never used the bike paths.

2.71Mile Treadmill Run

Tonight I ran 2.71miles on the treadmill at a average speed of 4.2.  While I was there I found a jacket I think I may buy. http://www.shopadidas.ca/product/GL035/GL1123/Sports/Women%27s+Power+Tech+Full+Zip+Hoody+REG.+55.00/detail.jsf
It's a good price because I am a Goodlife member.

7.15K Run

Tonight I ran 7.15K in 1hour and 5mins.  This is actually faster then I thought it was going to be.  Since it is getting darker so much earlier now, I think I am going to have to look into getting night time running gear.  Is there anything that you might recommend that I get for running at night?  Anything you don't leave the house without?

10K Run #3

Today I ran 10K in 1hour and 14mins.  Slower then I would have liked.  I want to get down to 1hour and 20mins at least for the Halloween Haunting 10K race at the end of the month.  It is a good thing that I didn't want to run more then 10K today because at the 5K turn around point the bike path was completely flooded.  I biker tried to bike through but it was up to his knees.
Today was the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon.  Two Canadians qualified for the 2012 Olympics in this race!  http://www.cbc.ca/sports/trackandfield/story/2011/10/16/sp-marathon-gillis-coolsaet.html  This is the first time since 2000 that a Canadian will be running the Marathon in the Olympics and we will have two in 2012!

2.4Mile Treadmill Run

Today was very chilly and rainy out so I opted to go to the gym to use the treadmill after work.  I ran 2.4miles in 35mins.  It was set at a average speed of 4.1.

6K Run #6

I have been super busy at work this week so my training schedule has not gone as planned.  I had not run since Monday until tonight. Tonight I ran 6K in 51mins.  This is faster then my last 6K run!  I ran to the drug store to drop off a prescription.  I don't usually run with a purpose, so it was nice to run somewhere for an actual reason.  The only down side was that it was cold, very windy and rainy. :(

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thankgiving to all my fellow Canadians!

Today I decided to do a mock 10K run of the route I will be running for the Halloween Haunting 10K race at the end of the month.  The run did not go quite as well as planned.  The day started with me making some Carrot and Garlic Soup, and in the process I ended up burning my hand.  2 hours after this happened I went for my run and my hand still throbbed.   I took a cool, damp cloth with me which helped dull the pain in my hand.  There was also some sort of event going on at Springbank Park, and it seemed like all of London was there.  Did these people have the day off work or something??  Because of all the people I was constantly dodging people and cars.  So because of all this I don't think my heart was in it today.  I got the jist of the route but ended up walking due to a cramp right before the 9K mark and then just called it quits at 9K.  It took me 1hour and 17mins to run 9K.  I am not very happy with this as I want to be under 1hour and 20mins for my 10K race.  I will have to schedule in a few more 10K runs before the end of the month as I think I have been slacking a bit running such short distances lately.
Here is the recipe for the Carrot and Garlic soup that severely injured me earlier today:

Ingredients:
1 head of garlic
1tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of pepper
5 cups of vegetable stock
3 cups of chopped carrots
1 potato peeled and chopped

Preparation:
Separate and peel garlic cloves.  In large saucepan, heat oil over medium heat; fry garlic, salt and pepper.  Add stock, carrots, potato, and 1 cup of water; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes.  Puree soup in a blender in batches.  (this is where you need to make sure the lid is on tight or you will burn your hand like I did)

I am now going to settle in to 4 hours of Kim Kardashian's wedding!
