NCL Sky Cruise to the Bahamas - Trip Report (Day 5) December 8th 2011

Day at Sea
Today we were suppose to go to NCL's private island, Great Stirrup Cay, but because of high winds and rough waters it turned into a day at sea.  I was pretty disappointed in this as I was looking forward to a beach day.  After breakfast at the Palace, we spent the morning reading and napping on deck.  We went to Karaoke after lunch.  After dinner we went shopping in the gift shop and went to the casino.  We caught a couple shows in the Stardust theater and a comedy game show in Dazzles nightclub.

Nassau
Today we arrived at our second port of call, Nassau.

We had a sit down breakfast at the Palace which was very good.  We got off the ship before our scheduled excursion to do a little shopping in Nassau.  It was insane.  I am surprised we did not get run over!  We headed back to the port after about an hour to wait for our tour guide.

Our Ship, The Norwegian Sky
We took a tour of Atlantis and the Dig, which is the resort's large aquarium.

The tour was very good and thought it was well worth the $59 we paid.
After the tour we headed back to the ship for some lunch.  We filled the afternoon with some reading on the deck and a nap.

Another towel animal!
I went for a 2mile run on the running deck while we were still docked.  It was a very scenic run, but very humid.  I forgot what it was like to run in the humidity.
We had dinner at Crossing.
Roasted corn and cheddar soup
We went to see a show at the Stardust theater, On Broadway.  It was very good and we actually got to sit in reserved seating as the guest they were reserved for did not arrive.  We went to the Casino for a bit and then headed to the comedy open mic night at Outriggers.  We ordered drinks, I had a very strong Long Island Ice Tea.  We stayed for Karaoke where the usual suspects sang.

Freeport
Today was our first port of call, Freeport.

We took a bus tour which included shopping and time on the beach.
The compound belongs to the owner of the KFC and Burger King franchise on the island.

It was well work the $35 cost.  I wasn't too fond of how pushy all the shop keepers were but was able to pickup a few souvenirs.
When we finished our tour we ate lunch on the ship, went for a swim and read on the deck.  I had a bit of a headache so I had a nap while Steven ate some more!  There was a 2 for 1 special on Martinis at Plantations bar, so we headed up there after my nap.  We ate dinner at the buffet and caught the Comedian which was very funny.  I then went for a 2mile run around the outside track as I felt a little more steady on my feet then I did last night.
I returned to the room to a towel animal!
After my run we went to see Dancing with the Sky Starts which was hilarious.  After that we headed to Outriggers bar for Karaoke again where the same guys were singing from the night before.

NCL Sky Cruise to the Bahamas - Trip Report (Day 2) December 5th 2011

First day on the ship.
We were a little skeptical of the shuttle to the Port as it was arranged by the hotel and we had already experienced how inefficient they can be.  We arrived and were on board by 12:30pm and headed straight for the pool deck.

I bought a very overpriced drink but got to keep the plastic glass (we ended up with 5 plastic glasses by the end of the trip).  Before we set sail I had already went for a swim, jumped in the hot tub and had some ice cream.
View of Miami
We had lunch at the Garden Cafe buffet and toured the ship a little more as I wanted to find the running track.  We then had our muster drill and the party began with a pool side BBQ.  When our luggage arrived we completely unpacked as our stateroom was not big enough for our two large suitcases to remain out of the closet.

Sorry the picture is so blurry

We went to a liquor tasting at the gift shop and spent a few bucks at the casino.  Then off to dinner at Crossings where we were seated at the Aft of the ship with a nice view.  I had Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Penne Pasta and Apple Pie.

Ended up having this for dinner twice!

We then went to see a Jeopardy game which was quite funny and then went to watch Karaoke (which became our nightly tradition).  The Karaoke started off slow but near the end it was quite good.  I had decided to to run tonight as I was having difficulty getting used to the movement of the ship.  Tomorrow we arrive in Freeport.

NCL Sky Cruise to the Bahamas - Trip Report (Day 1) December 4th 2011

We decided to drive to Detroit to save some money instead of taking a shuttle to the airport.  The drive was quick and we only ran into some rain, no snow!  We had a good flight with no hiccups.  When we landed in Miami we had to wait for the hotel shuttle.  The waiting area for the shuttles was complete chaos with no set meeting place.  After about 45mins of waiting we finally see a shuttle for our hotel, The Comfort Inn.  The driver informs us that he can't take us but he would call another shuttle.  (We later met the same driver at the hotel and he was very surprised to see us at the hotel, I think he was a little confused about where we wanted to go the first time we spoke)  I was furious as we already waited longer then I thought we should have.  Finally another shuttle came about 20mins later.  We finally get to the hotel shortly after 5pm.  Our room was not bad considering we only paid $100.

We decided to hit up the Dolphin Mall.  The hotel called us a cab and while we waited we saw a stray orange kitten and a black cat hangout out around the hotel lobby doors. (You will see the cat theme seems to reappear later in the trip)  It broke my heart as I would have taken them up to my room if I could have but they there were not very friendly and seemed pretty used to living outside. I also don't think the hotel would have appreciated it.
When we finally get to the mall there is a Forever 21.  We are getting a Forever 21 in London so I thought we should check it out.  I bought these beauties, Hello Kitty leg warmers, that I thought would be perfect to wear before cold morning runs.

And then what do we see....  That's right a Coach Factory store.  I have been wanting a coach purse for years, but could not justifying spending $400 on one.  Well when we walked in we were given a coupon for an 40% off the already marked down price and I found this purse on the clearance shelf for 50% off.

I only paid $100!  I saved over $200!
We wandered around the mall for a little bit longer, grabbed a bite to eat at the food court and then headed back to the hotel for the night.  Tomorrow we board the ship for our cruise.
